Bliss 166, taper and plug

Bliss 166, 20mm caliber Taper and Plug machines, are 99 ton double acting punch presses with a 7" stroke  that were designed to put the body taper, and neck and shoulder 20mm and similar length cases. These machines came from the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant where they were used to form 20mm M103 and 30mm cases.

Machine description: Bliss 166 double action 99 ton back geared punch press. 5 V belt drive, motor to flywheel; flywheel and backgear shaft mounted on back of press, connected to crankshaft bullgear via air operated clutch.

Machine motor: 10 horsepower; 220-440 volt 3 phase; 60 cycle 258 rpm gearhead motor drive.

Type of feed: Paddle wheel hopper.

Feed motor: Paddle wheel hopper driven by 1/4 HP, 1 phase 120 volt gearhead motor.

Stroke: 7"

Production: 70 pieces per minute.

Crankshaft speed: 70 RPM  

Height: Over-all approximately 12'

Weight: Approximately 18,500 pounds.  note: add about 2000 pounds for attached case feeder .

Floor Space:  8' by 8'
