Large ammunition projectile seater with hydraulic crimper

This tool came out of Red River Army Depot. It is a pneumatic press for seating a variety of sizes artillery projectiles into cartridge cases. Currently set up to seat and crimp 40mm L/70 ammunition, it can be easily converted to another size by changing the simple shell holder (pictured on the right) and the seat die and neoprene crimp bushing in the crimp head. The unit will crimp the casing material into whatever shape is machined in the projectile body.  We used it to crimp 40mm L/70 dummy ammunition, and it easily formed the brass casing into the double crimp grooves of the projectiles. It even put the double crimp on steel cases, though it appeared this was about the maximum power available from the hydraulic crimper as the crimp was adequate, but lighter than the brass cases.

Unit required lots of air. No numbers available, but it has two  8" diameter cylinders, each with about 18" stroke. Requires 120 volt control powder. Current draw is minimal, standard outlet does fine.

Machine stands upright during use, but is pictured lying flat on machine skid for storage.

Good condition, inside St. Louis warehouse

$3500 FOB St. Louis
