M62 Tracer Bullets

The M62 Tracer is the standard tracer projectile for the 7.62mm ammunition. It is a nominal 145 grain FMJ boattail bullet with a copper jacket and knurled cannelure. Trace is bright red, visible for about 850 yards.

M62.jpg (27042 bytes)These M62 bullets have all been machine pulled from US GI ammunition with the Army's new puller. This latest toy, while an efficient bullet puller, leaves "traction" marks on 2 sides of the projectile. We have run these bullets all through a set of draw dies to insure the proper diameter and eliminate high spots caused by the puller.M62b.jpg (9063 bytes) As can be seen in the pictures, the particular batch of projectiles we have at this time have very light marks, almost unnoticeable, and cause no interference with performance or appearance. In the photo on the right, the jackets appear black, but they are in fact quite clean, shiny copper color.

The M62 tracer was designed to be loaded with ball type powder, and does not require the use of hotter burning IMR type powders for reliable ignition. We loaded 40 rounds of 308 ammunition with this projectile and ball powder, and 39 of the 40 traced perfect. Only 1 failed to ignite.

Note:  *D.O.T. has classified these tracer bullets as a Hazardous Material (Explosive 1.4G) and require a $20 Haz Mat tag. We can ship as many as 3000 M62 projectiles on 1 tag.
