We buy surplus material from the Department of Defense, ammunition related items. This
occasionally includes pulled bullets. The military gauges every round of small arms ammo
it makes. They are inspected for headspace, primer depth, overall length, profile, rim
diameter and groove depth, weight, and appearance. Each lot of ammo is test fired to prove
compliance with specifications. Anything that does not come up to par, either individual
item rejects or entire lot rejects, is run through a bullet puller that dismantles the
ammunition and separates the components into 3 piles. Cases, powder, and bullets. The
Department of Defense is also currently dismantling huge piles of ammunition that has
expired shelf life dates, lost lot numbers, or has otherwise become unserviceable.
If the projectiles are not in too bad condition, we try to buy them. They are inspected, and all run through a set of draw dies to insure roundness and proper diameter. The military pulled bullets we have at this time are:
